MONDAY
Aquatic Investigations!
  • Make Journals
  • Introduction/Rules/Expectations/Journal Info
  • Getting to know each other and Earth Discovery Center (EDC) Scavenger Hunt
  • Hike EDC Nature Trail to collect items for observation in the Wet Lab (pond water & soil under trees)
  • Wet Lab Rules, use of lab coats, safety glasses, gloves
  • Introduction to being a scientist
  • Learn to use a microscope (observe leaves and other objects)
  • Introduce brine shrimp activity
  • Examine under the microscope (using the video cameras and television monitors): eggs and brine shrimp and other water creatures collected in the morning, and discuss how brine shrimp can be used to test for toxic substances such as acid rain
  • Design brine shrimp experiment for tomorrow
  • Write in journal
  • Nature Program: What do we find in a pond/reservoir?  Collect tadpoles from supply tank
  • Release tadpoles into the Earth Discovery Center Education Pond
  • Write in journal and do a craft project
