INDIANAPOLIS—For the fourth consecutive year, the Eagle Creek Park Foundation is hosting its Iron Eagle Paddle & Run adventure race on Saturday, July 23 at Eagle Creek Park, one of the nation’s top 10 largest city parks.

All proceeds raised will benefit the nonprofit’s mission to promote, preserve, protect and enhance Eagle Creek Park through trail restoration projects, park improvements and youth environmental education programs. Last year, the race raised $7,800.

Cost to participate is $50 per person before April 1, $60 before July 1, $70 before July 23 and $80 day of. Registrants can receive $15 off each race entry by becoming a member of the Foundation, which is tax-deductible. The discount offer is valid for new members only.

The race takes athletes of all ages on a 2.5-mile trail run, 1.5-mile paddle in a kayak or canoe, then 3.5-mile trail run through the east side of the park. The format mimics a Figure 8, and will utilize the beach as a central hub and transition area – a spot where spectators can cheer on racers.

Participants can bring personal kayaks or canoes (with life jackets and paddles), and can enter as an individual or 2-person team, which can be co-ed.

Racers can also reserve a boat in advance through Eagle Creek Outfitters by logging on EagleCreekPark.org. Boat rentals are limited and run on a first-come, first-served basis through July 21. Single kayaks are $25, and double kayaks and canoes are $35, and a percentage from every rental benefits the Foundation as well. Day of registrants must bring a personal boat.

All racers receive a participation medal, performance t-shirt and access to the Iron Eagle’s postrace party at the park’s Earth Discovery Center. Participants who register before June 20 are guaranteed a t-shirt in their size.

Prizes will be distributed for winners in the following categories: solo (male/female), team (male/female) and co-ed team.

Boat drop-off is 7 a.m. at the beach, check-in is 8 a.m. and the race starts at 9 a.m.
