Ornithology - the study of birds, including their behavior, natural history, physiology, ecology, and identification.
The Ornithology Center building has a fascinating history, beginning as the private library of J.K. Lilly, and then becoming the Nature Center for Eagle Creek Park for over 30 years. Reopening in fall of 2009 as the Ornithology Center, the building is now "all about the birds," featuring beautiful exhibits and programming focused on birds and birdwatching, as well as live bird of prey programs.
It also boasts the most spectacular view in Marion County from the bluff overlooking Eagle Creek Reservoir. It is not uncommon to see Bald Eagles, Great Blue Herons, Double-crested Cormorants, Grebes, Loons, and other amazing wildlife from the back observation window; creatures you would expect to see on a wilderness expedition living only minutes from downtown Indianapolis!
