What about pond study programs?

A new pond has been created at the Earth Discovery Center so that we can continue this very popular program; however, it may take a year or more before it is colonized by tadpoles, insects, and other creatures.  In the meantime, we can offer “pond-themed” programs with pre-caught living creatures that students can see up close with cameras and microscopes, as well as exploration of nearby reservoir and wetland habitats.

If your main interest is pond scooping with the dip nets, we may be able to utilize some of the established ponds in the park.  Please be aware that there would be no restroom facilities, and shoes will probably get muddy (which we think adds to the fun!)  Due to transportation times, this option is not practical as part of a round robin program.

What about the animals?

The live turtles, frogs, snakes and fish displays have all been relocated to the Earth Discovery Center.  The red-tailed hawk remains on display at the “old” Nature Center—you are welcome to stop by and say hello!

What will happen to the old Nature Center?  See below!

Have no fear!  The “old” nature center has not gone anywhere.  Instead, it has gotten a much-needed face lift and is now open as the Eagle Creek Ornithology Center.

Be sure to check out programs and exhibits that focus on bird identification, conservation, adaptations, and more! Call 327-BIRD for more information.
